When Numbers are People
If you looked at the topics that the staff at RSN have chosen to study, which include History, Human Rights, International Development and Forced Migration, you would be forgiven for thinking that we weren't that interested in maths. It's fair to say that we rarely enjoy a nice conversation about statistics over a cup of coffee.
However, last week we discovered some numbers that made us smile. Every single one of these figures represents a young person that we have come into contact with through our Access to Higher Education programme, which is the only specialist service in the UK for young asylum seekers and refugees trying to access Higher Education.
Through receiving funding from the John Lyon's Charity for three years to carry out in-college workshops and provide advice to young asylum seekers and refugees, we have been able to support young people from a variety of countries including Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia, Burma, Nigeria, Uganda, and Vietnam to access Higher Education.
These statistics are taken from the first ten months of the programme, from April to December 2011.
Do they make you smile too?
